The route of Urgell or smuggler’s route

Nature trail, to enjoy on mountain bike or by foot, which aims to recover the history surrounding the old route that led to the Vall de Lord in the direction of Seu d’Urgell via l’Aiguadora. A route that acquired special relevance between the 17th and 18th centuries when, following the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659), the people of Northern Catalonia, subjects of the king of France, were obliged to buy only the French king’s salt, which was inferior in quality to that of Cardona. The reaction of the local farmers and others was to stock up on our salt by smuggling. The route was to be the way chosen by the muleteers for carrying the salt to the border and across for its subsequent illegal sale. This is where the other name of Smuggler’s Route comes from.
